Alec Hope in Red Hat - 1983
Oil on canvas
12" x 10
This is the second painting of A.D. Hope - painted in the Eltham studio after working on initial portrait for four days. This portrait came about when my mother Grace Mitchell walked into the studio wearing the red hat; Alec cheekily took it from her head and placed it on his. I then painted this sketch in a 20 minutes sitting. We later referred to the first painting as the four day sketch for 'Alec in the Red Hat'.
The third painting of Alec Hope was painted in 1989 from his Canberra Home.
