Portraits of Australian PoetsThe portraits shown are from a series of 100 portraits of Australian Poets. Each portrait has been painted from life, generally from between one and four sittings. The series was begun in 1982 - the intention is to complete the collection by 2000.The portraits painted are from a diverse range of poets' and across Australia. The collection will be a representative of contemporary poets working in this country at the latter part of the century. The aim on completion is to publish a book of the portraits along with a poem, chosen by the poet and a small biographical history of each poet. At this stage, the paintings remain intact as a collection of Australian poets - there are 90 completed to date. The intention is to house them in an institution as a collection from where they can be toured in total or part from time to time and generate poetry readings and book launches.
